Vilnius (day 10)

Today we further explored Vilnius, visiting a synagogue, the castle and the cathedral. The rest of the day was quite a re;axed day.

The day started with breakfast of course, but after breakfast we walked around the old town and went to the synagogue. There was once a time when Vilnius was called the 'Jerusalem of Lithuania', that's how big the Jewish community was here. Today there is only one synagogue in all of Vilnius, so we visited it. Then we continued walking until we came to a small square where water came out of the ground like a kind of art project (like a waterfall), flows down a gutter on the street and then ends up in a well with a whirlpool. On this square, we sat on a bench and ate our sandwich (which we had brought with us for lunch). Once we had finished the sandwich, we walked back to the apartment, doing some grocery shopping along the way. Once back in the apartment, we had coffee and a croissant, and then walked to the castle on the hill (which we look out on from the apartment). At this castle, we enjoyed the view around us and the cooling breeze, and we could also see our apartment from here. Finally, we walked down again to visit a cathedral. After seeing this we walked back to the apartment, on the way I bought a snack because I was already quite hungry. Back in the apartment, we relaxed a bit and I took a nap. In the meantime, the food was cooked, and we sat down to eat. After dinner, we took an evening walk. Tomorrow we will continue our journey and leave Lithuania already to drive to Latvia (specifically: Riga)!
