Vilnius - Riga (day 11)

After two days in Vilnius, it was time to drive to the next destination: Riga, the capital of Latvia. After breakfast, we loaded our stuff into the car, so the stage for today could begin.

On the way to Riga, we stopped a few times to refuel the car and have a cup of coffee. One of the times we stopped to refuel was at a small gas station, where another Dutch car was parked. Here we also had a brief chat with the Dutch owners of the car. With a full tank, we continued driving to Riga. Once we got there, we were a few hours early, so we parked the car and went for a walk around the old town. We visited the '1991 Barricade' museum, among other things. This small museum tells the story of the barricade of the district where the government buildings are located, by the inhabitants of Riga and surroundings, in resistance against the Soviet Union in 1991. This was interesting to see, then we walked further through the old town until we went into a bakery to have coffee and a pastry. After this tasty snack, we walked through the old town back to the car, because by now it was almost time to check in at the apartment. Once we arrived at the apartment, we put our stuff inside and my parents went grocery shopping. I myself sat down to relax and made some notes. When my parents came back from doing groceries, they immediately cooked dinner, after which we had a delicious meal. After doing the dishes (due to the lack of a dishwasher) we drove to a district where the buildings were built in Art Nouveau style. Here we walked around the block and took pictures of the beautiful buildings. At last, we drove back to the apartment by car, where we ended the day. Tomorrow we will further explore Riga!
