Kraków - Warsaw (day 7)

Today we left Kraków behind us and drove to the Polish capital Warsaw. We will be staying there for the next two nights.

Along the way we made a few short stops at a gas station for a cup of coffee, a sandwich or a visit to the restroom. We finally arrived in Warsaw early in the afternoon, but we were a few hours too early (check-in at the apartment was only possible from 3:00 PM, and we were already in Warsaw around 1:00 PM). So we parked the car for a while and walked to the old city (for as much of it is still there, given that Warsaw was bombed during the war by the Nazis, the Soviets and the Allies). In the old town you will find many information boards about the events in the city at that time, also with photos from then & now. It was interesting and strange to see how different the city looked before it was bombed. There was a very beautiful and large park with a large fountain and in front of the fountain a monument under a part of a building that survived the bombings and is therefore still standing. This monument, with an infinite flame, is in honor of a fallen unidentified soldier, which is guarded by two ceremonial military guards. Later when we came back here we saw the changing of the guard. In the old town, we sat on the old market square for coffee and a sandwich. After this, we walked back to the car to drive to the apartment. Here we brought the suitcases inside after which laundry was done, and my parents did some groceries, I stayed inside to make some notes and to get some rest after all the aches and pains of yesterday which I still feel. When my parents came back the laundry was hung up and then dinner was prepared, tonight nice and easy: pizza from the oven! After dinner, we had a quiet evening, although we were planning to go back to the old town, but nobody really felt like it and I felt tired. Tomorrow it will be a bit warmer than today (around 30 °C) and we will still go into the old town, only this time we can take our time.
