Warsaw (day 8)

24/8/2024

Opmerkingen

On day two in Warsaw, after breakfast and with a packed lunch in our pockets, we took the metro to the old town. Once we got out of the metro, we walked to the POLIN museum, which we visited.
The museum is about the history of the Jewish community of Poland (and Warsaw in particular). The museum was built in what was the Jewish ghetto of Warsaw during the war. This was a beautiful and interesting (and large) museum, where we ended up spending three hours. The museum tells the story from the first Jews who came to Poland (about 1000 years ago) to modern Poland and everything in between (of course a large part about the Second World War). After seeing the museum, we walked towards the old town. On our way there, we came across a large statue that stands there as a monument in honor of the uprising of the inhabitants of Warsaw during the Nazi regime. There is also a small museum here (free entrance!) that is only about this. Then we walked into the old town, where my parents wanted to visit the pharmacy museum. This didn't seem very interesting to me, so I sat on a bench in the shade at the old market square where we were yesterday (it's around the corner) until they were done in the museum. When my parents were done in the museum and came back to me, we walked out of the old town to the river, where we walked along the boulevard to the metro station. From this metro station, we took the metro to the nearest stop to the apartment. From here we walked to the apartment, where we did some groceries on the way. When we arrived at the apartment, dinner was being cooked, and then we had a nice meal. After dinner, it was a quiet evening again, we were all pretty exhausted. We did play a game of Triominos. Tomorrow we leave Poland and drive to the first of three Baltic countries: Lithuania, where we go to Vilnius (the capital). This is quite a drive, it probably won't be much more than that tomorrow. However, this doesn't mean there's nothing to write about tomorrow! I hope you'll still enjoy reading along tomorrow!
