Today the holiday sadly comes to an end and we'll be flying back to the Netherlands. But we are supposed to be at the airport at mid afternoon. So in the morning we went to the botanical garden of Vancouver. This is a big park, with different trails, a cactusgarden, an Asian garden, a kitchen garden specially for homeless people / the salvavion army and a tree top canopy over multiple suspension bridges.
After breakfast we drove to Vancouver-North by car, where one of the most famous highlights of Vancouver is located: Capilano Suspension Bridge. Except for the 140 meters long suspension bridge there was also a 20 minutes during tour about all different kind of the trees that are growing in the park, after that you could climb the stairs into the trees where you could walk across 7 smaller suspension bridges throughout the park. After that we walked on a board walk through the park, where we had a view over the wild streaming water below us and the long suspension bridge. Also we walked the cliff walk high above the stream. The path down towards the exit leads past information signs about how humanity should think about the use of water, as much is wasted.
Today we left Vancouver Island behind us, sadly, to return to Vancouver city. But after breakfast we first visited the Royal British Columbia Museum. In this museum everything is set up big and consists of two levels, on the first floor it's about the history of the nature in British Columbia and the second floor about the human history of the same province. There's also a temporary exhibition about the Mayan culture and history.
A long ride with the car awaited us today from Ucluelet to Victoria (almost 400 kilometers driving), that's why we had to get up early. Although I was already awake, seen that I was awake half the night. Because of this I did however hear the seals make some noise early in the morning from the harbor!
Today was finally the day: we are going to do the whale safaritour! This would start at 12:00 hour, but our day already started at 8:30 hour... So we have some time to kill after breakfast, this we did by walking a bit to the beach. Here we saw an old ship wreck (well, what's left of it...). Not much later it started to rain so we walked back to our room. This walk was an excellent opportunity to fill in the time., because by now it was about time to go to the assembly point.
After breakfast we left for Ucluelet, but on our way we first stopped at a visitor centre. Here you could find a museum (entrance free of charge) about the history of the location (and a little bit about the Nuu-chah-nulth native tribe from this region) and the wildlife that you can encounter here. Mainly about the sea creatures like the humpback whale, gray whale, killer whale and sea lion. Next we drove a little further to a location where there are two board walks, through the ancient rain forest.
Today we left the ski resort of Whistler behind us as well as the mainland of Canada, because from today on we will go to Vancouver Island for half a week. But first we stopped at Shannon Falls. The third biggest waterfall of Canada!
The day started early in the morning, we were up at 7:00 hour. Right away we packed our suitcases and left, it was about three hours driving to our next destination; Whistler.
