Clearwater - Cache Creek (day 11)

11/9/2019

Comments

Today we left the camping bungalow behind us to go to Cache Creek. On our way we went to a museum about the local native tribe and their history.
This native tribe is called Secwepemc (pronounce as: she-whep-em), or Shuswap in English and has a long history in this country that's being told at the museum. In this pretty small museum there's besides the history about the tribe also told about the hunting on animals, what plants, berries, etc. they eat and how they prepare it and the craftmanship that they control to make weapons and other tools. Besides that there's a partly open air museum part, where replicas of four winterhouses are build. These houses are so called pit houses, where they dug out a pit in the ground and with some wooden beams they made a circular shaped construction with a pointed roof (in the middle of the construction). On the front side there's a tunnel-like entrance and in the middle where the pointed roof is there's an entrance with beam that's constructed as a ladder; the tunnel is the entrance for the women, the ladder for men. After visiting this museum we drove on to the adjacent city Kamloops where we had lunch in the beautiful Riverside Park, with a view over the river and the mountains in the background. After the lunch we continued our way to Cache Creek, where we arrived in the early afternoon and where's not much else to do. After checking in at the motel and bringing our luggage to the room we went for some groceries by foot (the store is not far in a village like this). When the groceries were done we walked back to our room to think about our next step (what to do?) with a drink. Several hours later we went to the restaurant that is located in the same building, but isn't part of the motel. With a full stomach we went back to the room, where we had the rest of the evening off. Tomorrow the journey continues to Whistler, but the weather forecast is foreboding, although that was the same story with the last few days but that turned out not so bad!
