Ucluelet (day 15)

Today was finally the day: we are going to do the whale safaritour! This would start at 12:00 hour, but our day already started at 8:30 hour... So we have some time to kill after breakfast, this we did by walking a bit to the beach.  Here we saw an old ship wreck (well, what's left of it...). Not much later it started to rain so we walked back to our room. This walk was an excellent opportunity to fill in the time., because by now it was about time to go to the assembly point.

Once arrived we had had to try on special suits and in these suits we walked towards the zodiac boat, where we first got the safety instructions from our captain Dave. After the explanation we could finally go and in a slow pace we exited the harbor, where we saw an eagle sitting on a fence. This was already a good start! Once out of the harbor we hit the gas and went to a rock island. When we arrived it turned out there was a whole bunch of Californian sea lions on the rocks. After taking some pictures and shooting some videos we hit the gas again onto the next location. Here there are humpback whales, which shoot out a lot of water through their blowholes. At a certain moment the activity of the whales ceased, so we continued to the next location , where's even more humback whales. Here I could take better (and easier) photos and videos of them and they even got closer tot boat (some even a couple of tens meters!). When the activity ceased here as well we went on our way back to the harbor. We did however first stopped at another rock island, where there are seals! After taking some photos and videos we took the (long) way back to the harbor, unfortunately. It was a bumpy ride on those ocean waves, which was a fun ride to be honest (unless you're getting sea sick of having back problems). Once back at the harbor we got out and returned the suits. Next we went back to our room to have some lunch (we still had some pizza left of yesterday, which we took with us in a doggy bag). After lunch we decided to make another hike of about two kilometers through once again an old (I think it was about 900 years old) rainforest. After this hike it was already time for some dinner so we drove back to the harbor where we were this afternoon. Here we had dinner at a floating restaurant. After dinner we wanted to see the sunset, but first we went back to our room to take a jacket, wash our hands and use the washroom. For myself I had some diarrhea, therefore I had to use the toilet a little longer which caused us to miss the sunset. Either way we did go to the beach to have a look, all to no avail. We did however saw some deer on our way! (bonus!). On our way back we stopped here and got out of the car to take photos and after that we got back to our room to wrap up the day. Tomorrow awaits us a long day , because we have to drive a long day, we will be going to Victoria!
