Golden - Canmore (day 5)

5/9/2019

Opmerkingen

Today we left Golden behind us and we drove on to Emerald Lake, where it already very busy was. This is a beautiful lake, where the water has an emerald color; hence the name Emerald Lake. To get to this lake you have to take a side road off the highway (this road only lead to the lake). On our way we passed a natural bridge, we stopped here on our way back from the lake to the highway. This bridge is carved out of the stone throughout the many years by the wild stream of water, which has a white color because of the high concentration of chalk.
Next on we drove to Lake Louise, where's a stopping place along the way to the lake from where you can see the spiral train tunnels. There wasn't much to see of the railroad tracks and tunnels (which goes up and around the mountain in a spiral shape). There is a scale model however, so you can see how the situation looks like. After seeing this we continued on to Lake Louise as mentioned before, where rushhour just looks like a hold-up... This lake has multiple parking lots, but all of them were full and after driving around in a circle we found a place to park at a small parking lot. From here it was a long walk to the lake, but it was all worth it! At Lake Louise, which also has beautiful colored water you can see a glacier on the background. Here we just sat down on the scaffolding to enjoy the picturesque view. After a while it was enough and we continued our way (we also wanted to go to Moraine Lake, but all the parking places were so full that the road to the lake was closed off). Tomorrow at the end of the afternoon we will make a second try... ? ? ?

So we drove on to Canmore, where we will stay for the next two nights. On our way we did stopped at Johnston Canyon, this was a hiking trail along a wild water stream to waterfalls. You could choose to go to the upper falls (about 1,3 km walking) or the lower falls (about 600 meters walking). We choose the lower falls. This looked spectacular, how much water, what a force and noise it produces. Finally we drove the last part to Canmore, where after checking in we had pizza for dinner and had the rest of the night off. We stayed in our hotelroom (there's not much else to do in Canmore).
