Canmore (day 6)

6/9/2019

Opmerkingen

After a bad nights rest and some breakfast we drove to Banff, it's not only the name of the National Park but also of the city. Here we walked around a bit and bought some souvenirs.
Next we drove to Lake Minnewanka. This is a large lake which is mostly strechted out. Here we did a hike along he lake to a canyon. At this canyon there's a wooden bridge from where you have a beautiful view on the water stream (which has an emerald color). Moreover, the bridge was carved all over with all kinds of texts and of all the places in the world I saw (pretty big) written "Purmerend". Not how you should treat a bridge in nature, but what are the odds! After the hike back we drove to the small Johnson Lake where we had lunch at a picknick table. Here we decided to go to Lake Louise to kill the time for the visit to Moraine Lake. In the daytime the road to Moraine Lake is closed by default because of the crowds, the only chance to get to the lake is very early in the morning or after 18:00 hour (unless it's the high season or when it's a really beautiful day, then it's possible after 19:00 hour). At Lake Louise we hiked uphill to get a better view on the lake. After about 20 minutes hiking (steep uphill) the view was limited (because of all the trees), but very nice! After that we walked down again (much easier...) to the car and we drove to Banff to visit the cave and bassin. Upon arrival we figured out it was about a sulphur hot spring which contains a high concentration of minerals. Here you also find a kind of snail which is about to go extinct. Here they are being well taken care of. Also it turned out that this is the birtplace of the National Parks and / or historic locations of Canada which makes this the first one! Finally we give it a try to go to Moraine Lake. And indeed... the road was open (all happy!), so we could drive tot the lake in half an our, park our car and walk to the lake where we enjoyed the view, took some pictures and climed a pile of rocks to have an amazing topdown view on the lake... How incredible it is to witness a live painting with my own eyes. It was worth all the effort and perseverance!
