Canmore - Hinton (day 7)

7/9/2019

Today it would be a very long day. For that reason we got up really early in the morning and had breakfast. After that we packed up our suitcases and checked out of the hotel to drive onto the Icefields Parkway to our next destination. This road is a highway along all kinds of highlights. These highlights can vary from waterfalls, glaciers, canyons, lakes, view points and creeks.
Until Lake Louise it was all known territory, we drove that part in one go. After that the Icefields Parkway started, with all its highlights. Here we started at Herbert Lake, where a bit of fog was visible right above the water of the lake. Next we stopped at Crowfoot Glacier / Helen Lake / Bow Lake, Peyto Lake and - Glacier (this lake and lakes as Moraine Lake, Lake Louise and Emerald Lake belong to one of the highlights of this part of Canada), Mistaya Canyon, Saskatchewan River Crossing, at a view point where we saw people looking into a specific direction. Upon arrival it turned out the saw a black bear. I (finally! ? βœ”️) saw it and photographed / filmed it. Furthermore we went to Coleman Creek (where we had lunch at a picknick table), Athabasca Glacier (this one you could climb, until the beginning of the glacier. That is what we did), Tangle Creek, Sunwapta Falls and finally Athabasca Falls. From here on we drove to Hinton in one go, at Jasper National Park. Here we will stay for the next two nights. While approaching Hinton it started to rain unfortunately. After checking in and bringing the suitcases to the room we walked through the rain to a steakhouse to get some dinner. After dinner we walked back to the hotel to call it a day. For the next few days there's also a bad weather forecast (so far the weather has been great, except for 1 or 2 days). It's still unclear what we're going to do tomorrow, partly because of the weather.
