After breakfast and with packed lunches in our bags, we walked to the funicular today to go up Tibidabo, which is the highest mountain in the area.
On top of this mountain there is a church, which looks beautiful from the inside! There is also an amusement park here (where you only have to pay for the attractions, so you can feel free to walk on the paths!). Here we sat in a quiet spot on a bench in the shade, eating a sandwich. Then we took the funicular back down to walk to Parc Gรผell. Nowadays you have to buy tickets to enter this park (previously this was free), luckily we had already bought tickets online in advance. Because upon arrival we saw that the tickets for today were already sold out! In this park you can see works of art by Gaudรญ, such as the famous long winding bench that runs in a semicircle along the edge of the terrace and is completely mosaic (even the back). From this terrace you look out over two houses that Gaudรญ designed and over Barcelona (including the Sagrada Famรญlia). This terrace is supported on pillars and the ceiling (i.e. the bottom of the terrace) is also beautifully mosaic. From here a staircase leads down where in the middle there is a (mosaic) salamander, of which the salamander's mouth functions as a fountain. After seeing this we walked further to Casa Vicens, this is (one of) the first buildings built by Gaudรญ, a house. Then we walked to the metro to go back to the apartment to relax for an hour. After the relaxing hour we took the metro again to eat in a restaurant, on the advice of a travel blogger-friend who lived and worked in Barcelona for a while and has created her own food guide. Unfortunately, this was a bit disappointing, but I can still recommend that food guide to you (perhaps you will have more luck than me...). After dinner we took the metro back to the apartment. Tomorrow we will visit the Barcelona aquarium, this seems to be worth visiting. So I'm very curious!
