Barcelona - Purmerend (day 6)

Today we woke up in Barcelona for the last time, with the last breakfast in this apartment where we also made packed lunches. After breakfast, we prepared for the trip to the airport and therefore home.

From the apartment we took the metro to the airport. All in all we were on the subway for about an hour (with a transfer along the way). Once we arrived at the airport it turned out that we were much too early, also because the flight was delayed by half an hour. So we got a coffee and a croissant in the terminal to pass the time. Finally the check-in desk opened and we got in line. After checking in (and therefore dropping off the luggage) we walked further to the security check. Here someone from security (who is standing at the metal detection gate) saw my Muse (a British rock band) shirt and enthusiastically told me that he is a Muse fan and has seen them live once, after which I told him that I have already seen Muse live three times. His jaw dropped, he loved that! (This is now one of the more fun experiences at security, where it is normally a stressful hassle!). We finally arrived at the gate, where the plane wasn't there yet. We did see John de Wolf, who had to take the same plane as us. The plane only arrived when we were supposed to board (the delay that we already had taken into account), after which all passengers had to disembark first, and the plane had to be prepared for the new flight (to Amsterdam). Ultimately, it turned out that the plane left Rotterdam too late, had bad weather en route and was waiting at Barcelona airport for permission to land. All in all we were delayed about an hour when we left. Upon departure, it also turned out that my seat belt was loose, of course I reported this to the flight attendant (who told me to tie a knot in it so that it could not come loose) and that they would fix it later. After a two-hour flight we arrived safe and sound at Schiphol. We also had to wait about 45 minutes at the baggage carousel for the luggage to arrive. Once outside, we still had to figure out how to get home, because there is work being done on the train track on the route between Zaandam and Hoorn this weekend. We finally arrived in Purmerend around 8:00 PM, at the car (parked at the train station). We drove to the supermarket by car, so that we could buy a ready-made meal 5 minutes before closing time. Once we arrived home, we had a delicious meal (we were quite hungry by now...) and unpacked our things. So far my city trip to Barcelona, I hope you (like me, despite the tense times in / around Israel) were able to enjoy the beautiful city that Barcelona is!
