Unfortunately, today is the last stage of the journey. After breakfast (and sandwiches for lunch) we left Karlsruhe on our way home!
After breakfast and having packed our lunches, we started driving and left Milan and Italy behind us.
After a good night's sleep we had a small breakfast. After breakfast we went on our way by car. On the way to Cinque Terre. On the way there, after driving for four hours, we stopped in Pisa, where we first had lunch on a terrace. Then we viewed the world-famous leaning tower of Pisa from the outside (it is very touristy here!). I have been to Pisa before, so it was not something new for me.
Today is the last day on Sardinia. With breakfast behind us and packed lunches ready, we drove to Olbia, where we took the ferry to mainland Italy.
There is not much planned today, just snorkeling. After breakfast we changed clothes, put on swimsuits and went to the beach (by car). Unfortunately the wind was too strong and the waves were too rough. Moreover, it is a sandy beach and there is not much to see underwater. So there was no snorkeling, but we did take a refreshing dip.
After breakfast and with packed lunches ready we left Decimomannu to drive to Oristano. We did drive through the artists' village of San Seperato, where we were earlier, on the day before yesterday. In this village we saw a beautifully decorated garden, so we stopped for a closer look. Until the owner of the garden saw us and invited us to come and take a look inside the garden, so we saw even more beautiful (and colorful) art. After that we continued driving to Oristano.
The day started, like every other day, with breakfast and preparing the packed lunch. Then we drove to Pula, this is the southernmost point of our trip. In Pula we went to Nora. This is an archaeological site containing remains of a Roman settlement dating from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. Here you can admire an amphitheater and a palace with beautifully preserved mosaic floors. Nora is located in a special location: on the tip of a headland! I have never experienced archaeological sites at such a location before. Then we drove to Cagliari, this is the capital of Sardinia.
With breakfast behind us and packed lunches ready, we first went by car to Bosa castle, where we walked last night. We were actually a little early (fifteen minutes before opening time), but by the time we had walked from the parking lot to the entrance of the castle it was already opening time. We were the second customer of the day! On this site you could only climb the main tower of the castle ruins and walk over the castle walls and a part of the courtyard. After seeing this we continued our way to Santa Cristina.
