Cahuita - Sarapiqui (day 6)

After a fine night's rest it was time to get up, altough I overslept with 20 minutes (I didn't hear the alarm go off...). Quickly doing the morning ritual. After that I still had some time left, so I packed up my suitcase and... exactly on time ready for breakfast! Putting my shoes on and exit the door. Let's have a quick look at the waterstream in the 'backyard', I see a lizard! I Quickly made a photo of the lizard. Now it's really time for breakfast. After breakfast we loaded our luggage in the car and off we go, on to the next!

After 2 to 3 hours of driving we arrived at Helliconia Island. This is sort of a botanical garden on an island of 2,5 hectare, where there are also howler monkeys and sloths. Ofcourse we have spotted them! After the tour on the island we had a coffee break there and after that we continued our way to Sarapiqui, this was only 15 minutes driving away. Upon arrival at the bungalowpark we checked in and dropped our luggage at our cabins and drove back to the city centre of Sarapiqui to have lunch there. After the lunch we went back to the bungalowpark and walked around on the terrain, because on the terrain there are two lakes with caimans, a butterfly- and froggarden and a big pond with exotic (and colorful) frogs (non-poisonous). The butterly- and froggarden were empty and abbandoned unfortunately. At the lakes with the caimans we saw two young caimans (about 40 cm tall) and an adult caiman. The frogs are nocturnal, so they only come to life in the evening. When we were finished walking around on the terrain we went back to the bungalow. The bungalows has glass sliding doors, so you can keep an eye out for wildlife in the backyard. That's exactly what we did, we only spotted hummingbirds and small (but very quick) salamanders (the kind that can jump). After an hour it was already around 18:00 PM and I decided to go to the reception / lounge area for the internet connection until I heared the frogs croaking. So I took a look at the pond... Sure enough I saw not 1, but 2 frogs (they were on top of eachother)! Unfortunately it was already too dark to take a photo (flash isn't allowed). So I walked back to the bungalow to get my parents, we took photos of the frogs by using the flashlight function of our smarthpones (after we've spotted them obviously). At a certain moment we had enough of it and we walked to the restaurant part (which is right next to the frog pond). Before dinner arrived on our table (it took quite a long time), we searched some more for the frogs. After dinner I decided to get a real flashlight from our bungalow, because that gives more light then the lights of our smartphones and then I started to spot some more frogs. This time we saw some other species. After a while we had enough of it again and decided to go back to the bungalow, on our way back we saw a huge toad (about 25 bcm) crossing the path. For tomorrow morning there is a hiking tour of about 2 hours on our schedule, the plan for the rest of the day are still unkown to me at the moment of writing. On to the next!
