Just a little while until Canada... Here's already a good jetlag tip!

It won't take long anymore before the journey  to Canada starts (just two weeks to go!) . The flight from Schiphol Airport to Vancouver takes about 9,5 to 10 hours. You understand that that such a long flight calls for a jetlag. I found myself a solution for that problem two years ago and successfully executed it: because for the ourward journey as for the return trip to Costa Rica and Thailand I experienced no jetlag. So here's a golden tip for you!
A jetlag is actually just your biological clock that's beeing upset after a long flight, independent if it's westward or eastward. This can result for example in having the feeling that it's middle of the night while it's actually just (after)noon (or vice versa). So to prevent this and let your body get used to the big time differences between the place of departure and place of destination I have a tip for you:

In the case of flying to the west you will fly towards the sun, this means that you're flying against the time (see the green in the image on the side). This tip is about going to sleep early the evening before departure, so that on the day of flying you're fresh and awake. The intention is that you're awake for the whole flight (because you're going in the same direction as the sun you will have daylight during the whole flight so the day will be very long). On arrival at your destination it will probably be evening / night (local time). It will be logical to go to sleep at a normal (local) time. The next morning you are up and running again and if done right you won't feel a jetlag!

If you're flying to the east you will fly against the sun in this case you fly with the time (the time will go by twice as fast, so the day looks shorter and you will fly through the night), see the red in the images on the side. Now you are supposed to go to bed as late as possible the night before your departure to have a short night rest. So you can sleep as long as possible in the airplane. If I'm right than you will arrive on your destination in the (early) morning of afternoon. Just spend your day as you will and go to bed in the evening on a normal local time. The next morning you will feel well rested and excited for the day and if done right you won't feel a jetlag!

In my own experiences I was really tired after those flights, but I didn't had the feeling that my body / mind was confused about the time. This can differ per person, so keep that in mind!
