Athens - Tolo (day 3)

This morning we had a delicious and solid breakfast. After breakfast we left Athens (unfortunately) behind us and took the car to drive to Tolo (170 km). On our way we stopped at a place, 20 km before Isthmia. Here is a bridge crossing a channel. The bridge itself isn't really special but the channel was digged out by hand in the time of Napoleon. The bridge is about 70 meters high, this gives you an idea how deep the channel was dug out. Besides that the channel is also verry narrow, I found it quite strange for such a deep channel... The water is azure of color by the way and crystal clear, the water looked like it just came from a Caribbean paradise!

We continued our way downwards to the channel so we could see the channel from equal height near the entrance of the channel. It was wonderful to see! After that we continued driving to Epidaurus, here are archeological foundings dating back to the Greek era. Including the biggest amphitheatre in the world. This is really huge, I was really suprised by the size of it. The amphitheatre has a capacity of 12.000 spectators and has a perfect accoustic. If someone is standing on the playing area on the ground and says something with a normal tone you can hear it on the last row all the way up, pretty impressive for something they build in the 5th century B.C.! The last 21 rows, at the top, were build 300 years later (2nd century B.C.) by the way. After seeing the ruins we continued our journey to the final destination for today: Tolo. Upon arrival at the hotel, as soon we entered our hotelroom, we were amazed by the view over the azure sea, islands and small boats floating just off the coast. After a short rest we walked into the direction of the sea (1 minute away) to take a stroll on the beach (at some points the beach is only 3 meters wide). In the azure water we saw quite some fish shoals along the peers with very small fishes, but also some bigger fish that looked very pretty as well. After seeing this we went back to the hotelroom to take a short break and to freshen up. I had a siesta for a while, I was completely knocked-out (probably from the last couple of intensive days in Athens which are now getting to me). Once woken up (an hour later) we went to the restaurant of the hotel where we had dinner, after dinner we went for an evening stroll along the shoppingstreet (which is parallel to the sea, but just one block higher). On our way back we drinked some coffee at a cafe, I had a (big) chocolatewaffle with a scoop of ice cream. This was delicious! Finally we went back to the hotel, to dive directly into (my temporary) bed. The program for tomorrow isn't much, in the morning we do have a program (what exacly I don't know at the time of writing, we'll decide tomorrow I think). In the afternoon however we're doing some snorkeling in the (I will say it once again) azure sea. Already looking forward to it! See you tomorrow!
