Gythio - Pylos (day 6)

9/6/2016

Opmerkingen

After a scanty breakfast we continued our way, first in the direction of Areopoli. Here nearby is a stalactite cave. This was really special to see. It's a route of 1,2 km by a small boat, you have to do the last 300 meters on foot. In the cave the massive chambers vary with alleys so narrow the boats just fit through it! The water is so crystal clear (like a glass of water). In the cave there's just a peaceful silence, the only thing you hear is the sound of rippling water.
After seeing this we continued our way to Limeni. In this place we went to the supermarket where we got huge croissants and some sandwich spreads, then we went into the direction of the sea where we sat down to enjoy our lunch. After lunch we hit the road again, until we saw a pebble beach where we took a refreshing dive and also started looking for some nice pebbles. As soon as we dried up again we drove to our final stop for today: Pylos. In the hotel (which is located by the sea) we checked in and dropped our luggage so we could go snorkeling. During snorkeling along the rocks in the beautiful clear water we saw some nice fishes, some of them quite large actually! After snorkeling we freshned up again and after that we took a stroll to find a place on a restaurant terrace so we can have dinner. After dinner we went straight back to our hotel. Tomorrow Olympia is on our program, which is famously known for the Olympic Games that originate from here. The Olympics were kept for centuries in the Greek empire B.C.. Although the Olympics weren't as international as the modern day Olympics, instead it was supposed just for the Greeks. Besides that there weren't as much sports as there are at the modern Olympics (combined events, running, javelin-throwing, discus throwing, shot-put, wrestling, etc.). Moreover, there is an Olympic Games coming this summer, this time in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in August. More about Olympia tomorrow and the history about the Games, for now a spending the night in Pylos. Goodnight!
