Pylos - Olympia (day 7)

With a good breakfast on our stomach we continued our way again. We drove on end to Olympia. This is about 150 km driving from Pylos. Upon arrival (still in the morning), we dropped our luggage at the hotelroom and immediatly we started to explore the old Olympic village. But first we went to the museum, where all the excavated items (statues, attributes and military equipment) are showcased. This was nice and impressive to see.

After that we went to the Olympic village, where it once all started. It's a very big terrain with a lot of ruins. Including the temple of Zeus, the temple of Hera, a 200 meter track and the place where every 4 years the Olympic flame is beeing lit. This Olympic village is not far from the hotel, so it's easy to walk the distance. There's even a museum about the Olympic Games right next to our hotel. But it looked like it's out of business... Olympia itself is actually a very small town, with only 1 shopping street and that's it, so there's not much else to do. After seeing the ruins we went back to our hotel, put on our swimming clothes and went to the hotel swimmingpool. But not long after there was thunder and lightning, so we quickly got out of the swimmingpool and after drying up again we went back to the hotelroom. We took a quick shower to hit the street again, we went to the pizzaria around the corner. After a nice pizza we bought some nice typical Greek T-shirts and went back to the hotelroom. Here I got bored until it was time to get some sleep. Tomorrow we'll be driving to Klitoria. This is about 100 km driving and on our way we have plenty of time to make some stops to look around. In Klitoria itself is not much to do, but this is just an overnight stop on our way to Meteora. That's where we will be heading the day after tomorrow. But first one more night with the Olympic dream (and that on the day the European Championship tournament in France starts...) See you tomorrow!
