New Delhi (day 1)

A very good morning from New Delhi (it's 4:15 AM now here). Yesterday I didn't had an internet connection (in this hotel  there's only you only have 1 hour of free wifi a day, I had already used that. So I have to wait until a new day). So hereby my update of day 1. After a short night's rest (slept 3 hours) we had a fine breakfast. After breakfast we had a meeting in the lobby with the guy from the travel organization (Travel Spirit International), he explained us everything about all the vouchers, tickets, do's and dont's in India etcetera. After that our guide walked in and so our adventure could really start.

After getting in the car, we first went to a big mosque. This is a nice building, when I walked on the site of the mosque I felt more like I was in the Middle-East. But as soon as you see the Indian people around you, you know that you're in India. From the mosque you have a great view on the white Sikh temple. After seeing the mosque our guide stopped 2 rickshaws. Just hopping in and we drove to the old city in New Delhi. Here you can get a good impression of the daily (and busy) lifeof the city. The rickshaws drives through the very narrow and crouded streets. But also mopeds that tries to drive inbetween everything (while honking, which is usual here). Next we went to a sort of mini-Taj Mahal. This is also quite a big construction and made nicely. After seeing this we continued our way to an ancient old tower. This tower was the highest tower in the world during the 11th century and it looks beautiful with all kinds of details carved in it. On the same site as the tower there are also (the ruins) of an old Hindu temple, made of sandstone. This is also from the 11th century and also contains beautifully carved in details in the pillars. On our way here we had a short stop at different ministry buildings and the embassy. These are also beautiful buildings located on a hill, looking down on the city. From the embassy there's a 1 or 2 km long straight road downhill leading to the India Gate, this is a memorial in honor of the victims of all the wars India had been involved in. Including the 2nd world war and the India-Pakistan war.

As I mentioned earlier it's still early in the morning, I woke up this early because a driver (another driver) will pick us up and bring us to the train. With this train we will drive to Agra (about 2 hours by train). Here we will be picked up again by our driver and we will get to know the new guide (in every city we get another guide). In Agra we will be visiting the Taj Mahal among other things. So far day 1 (we still don't have our luggage by the way) and our plans for day 2. In the next post I will tell you what we did on day 2.
