Marrakesh - Casablanca (day 2)

4/10/2022

Opmerkingen

On our first full day in Morocco we went to the botanical garden of Marrakesh (Majorelle), after our breakfast. Here there are mainly cacti, palm trees, bamboo and other tropical plants, trees and bushes. After visiting the botanical garden we drove by bus to Casablanca.
The bus ride to Casablanca is about 250 km. On our way there we stopped for a sanitary break and to have something to drink and eat. After that we continued our way to Casablanca. Upon arrival, we first had an extensive lunch, which delayed our visit to the Hassan II Mosque due to a combination of circumstances. Because of this we had to wait a long time for our food, which caused we lost time to visit the third-biggest mosque in the world. The mosque is very impressive to visit, on the outside and inside! We had a tour inside the mosque, after that we could walk around on the area around the mosque and enjoy all the beauty of the exterior. Summarized: the mosque contains wood carvings, mosaic walls, fountains and benches, marble pillars and titanium chandeliers. Except for a few things all building materials came from Morocco itself. By the way, the mosque isn't that old: between the late 80s and early 90s the mosque was built in order of a French architect. To compensate the lost time due to the lunch-issues we were allowed to visit the museum about the mosque, where the art of the building and the build itself was displayed (think about examples of the mosaic works or wood carving works, but also pictures of when they built the mosque and a model of the mosque. By the way, a part of the mosque (located at the shore) was partially built in the Atlantic Ocean. Next on we drove to the boulevard by bus, where we had a short walk, which wasn't that special, but the nice breeze of air was more than welcome! :) The bus picked us up again, and we drove to the hotel for the upcoming night where we checked in and almost right away had dinner. After dinner walked outside for a short while, to the old post office of Casablanca amongst others, which is around the corner of the hotel and after that we walked to a café for some drinks. Finally, we went back to the hotel where we went to the rooftop terrace to enjoy the view and made a picture of the mosque that we visited earlier today which is visible from here, now illuminated by some nice lights. Tomorrow we will drive to the capital of Morocco: Rabat and we will end the day in Meknès! See you then! :)
