Ljubljana (day 8)

After breakfast, we walked to the castle on top of the hill in the middle of the city (which is quite a steep climb). This castle was built in the twelfth century and is a lot bigger than the castle of Bled where I was yesterday. After seeing this castle we went to the market.

On the local market, where clothing, handbags, fruit and vegetables (all locally grown) are being sold, we bought some vegetables for dinner and tomatoes for lunch. Besides, there's also a covered market where you can buy meat. We bought the meat in a supermarket, together with some sandwiches for the lunch. After doing groceries we walked back to the apartment where we had lunch. After lunch, we walked towards the hippie / artistic neighborhood via the old center. On our way there we first went to the city hall where a wing of the building contains an exhibition about the theater world with all kinds of attributes, there a guide gave us a short tour along all these attributes and told about the theater and where the attributes are used for. Next we went to a cathedral which looked really beautiful on the inside with painted frescoes and with gold decorated parts. After seeing the cathedral we continued our way to the hippie / artistic neighborhood, where former military barracks are decorated with graffiti and other kind of art. After seeing this we walked back to the apartment, also because we started to feel some aches here and  there from all the walking today. Once back at the apartment we relaxed a bit, figured out the route for tomorrow to drive and made dinner which we enjoyed. After dinner my parents went back to the old center to enjoy some kind of festival, with (symphony) orchestra's and choirs. I stayed in the apartment, because these type of performances doesn't really interest me. Tomorrow we will leave Slovenia behind us and go to Croatia!
