Ljubljana - Rijeka (day 9)

What a day today, which started so beautiful with a visit to a cave. After that we drove on to Croatia but just before crossing the border things went wrong...

We started today with a visit to the Skocjanskje Jama (jama = cave). This is an old limestone cave, with stalactites, stalagmites, pillars, big chambers and an underwater river. The cave is about 7 km long of which about 2 km is publicly accessible (only with a guide). Naturally this was beautiful to see. After this cave we had lunch at a picknick table on the parking lot. Next we drove on to Rijeka in Croatia, but like I said just before crossing the border things went wrong. At a priority road (we had a stop sign) we got hit from behind. We are alright, but the car has some damage on the tailgate... This got deformed, luckily it can still be closed. But according to the sensor it isn't closed well causing the warning / beeping sound to go off (luckily not constantly), because of this the car isn't able to lock. So tomorrow morning we will first go to a garage to let it fix temporarily. Hopefully it can be fixed, in the worst case we have to abort our vacation and go back to the Netherlands. We were however (after filling in the damage form) able to continue our journey to our destination for today. Upon arriving in Rijeka we did some groceries and went to a restaurant for dinner. After dinner, we walked to the beach (in the dark) and then returned to the apartment. Unfortunately we are 5 km away from the center, a bit too far away to walk and to park the car there without beeing able to lock it is too big of a risk. So that's not an option... Like I mentioned before tomorrow morning we will go to the garage and let it fix. If we are able to continue our way than the next stop will be Zadar, where we will stay for one night as well! Hoping for the best!
