Sukhothai - Chiang Mai (day 10)

24/10/2018

Waking up after a good sleep and with a message saying that Ajax had won the Champion League match makes immediately a great start of the day! Time for Thai breakfast once again (same as yesterday). After breakfast, we packed our suitcases and put in the back of the pick-up truck. Our hostess will take us to the bus station (not the one where we arrived yesterday, but another one closer-by in the old city). Here we had to wait for the bus to arrive, but once arrived we had to take a ride with it to Chiang Mai for the next 5 hours on!
Upon arrival (and with a painful ass from the long sit, even though we had a short toilet break 1.5 hours before arrival) we took a pick-up taxi from the bus station to the hostel in the old city. With this kind of taxi not only the luggage will go in the back, but also the passengers. These taxi's have a roof construction above the cargo part. Once arrived at the destination we checked-in and left our luggage in the room, so we could go sightseeing in the old city by foot. Firstly we had something to eat for lunch, seen that it was lunchtime, and we were hungry. After the lunch we visited some temples. First the Wat Pundtow, this is an old temple fully constructed of wood (and with a big Buddha inside the temple). Next we visited the Wat Cheidi Luang. This is a giant temple, containing lots of gold (some parts fully made of gold) and behind that there was the ruin of an old temple. This temple also contained a garden with signs of (Eastern) wisdom. Those words of wisdom make you thinking... After seeing these temples we walked towards the Eastern gate, where we wanted to eat at an Israeli restaurant (to eat falafel). Unfortunately we couldn't find it, so it was Thai food once again... After dinner, we walked back to our room. Tomorrow we have to get up really early, because then we will be picked up between 6:30 and 7:00 AM for a half day at an elephant sanctuary! About that and more tomorrow!
