Bangkok, day 2

16/10/2018

After an excellent night rest we were all fit to go again. Once ready for the new day, we walked out the door towards the skytrain. On our way we got ourself a breaktfast at the McDonalds... After that we took the skytrain to the river, where we took the hon on / hop off boat down the river in the direction of the city centre. Upon arrival we went to the Grand Palace, where you will also find  Wat Pha Kaew, this is a large piece of land containing a palace and a collection of (beautiful) temples.
After this time consuming visit we took the tuktuk (our first one in Thailand, check!) to go to the Golden Mount. This is also a temple, build on a specially build mountain. While climbing up all the stairs you walk along the well known buddhistic bells and gongs which you can sound it yourself. Make some noise! On top top of the mountain there is a stupa, which is fully decorated with golden mosaic stones. Of Course there's also the great 360Β° view over the city. Once downstairs again we walked to the next temple; Wat Suthat. Even though this one is, unfortunately, beeing renovated there is a giant Buddha statue inside, sitting in lotus position. After seeing this we took the tuktuk once again, this time to the Thompson House. This is the former residence of an American WOII veteran, who was stationed in Thailand during the war. After the war and his military duty he stayed in Thailand to start a silk factory and he hired poor people. He was a loved benefactor. Untill one time in the '70's when he went to Malaysia for the holidays, there he went for a walk all alone never to be seen again. Until this day nobody knows about his whereabouts. Rumor has it that a concurrent killed him or that a distracted / drunk Malaysian truckdriver ran him over, killing him and that he hid the body. By the way, the house is built in traditional Thai style, completely made of wood and on wooden poles. There are in fact some Western twists, like a stairway indoor (traditional Thai houses have it outdoor) or a dining table with chairs (in Thai houses people eat and sleep on the floor). After this we went back to the hotel with the skytrain, but just before arriving at the hotel we bought some streetfood so we can have that in the hotel room. Besides eating we also took some time to relax to catch our breath again from all the walking and from the heat, but also to plan our next step ahead of Bangkok. Tomorrow we have another day in this metropolis, but after that we travel on spec. After planning our next move by booking a hotel and after freshing up we headed outside again and walked towards the skytrain station. Here we looked for some food for dinner, we ended up in a restaurant. At least we thought so, because when the food was beeing served we noticed this is a saladbar by the way that the food is served cold. This wasn't exactly planned, but after having a small bite we headed to McDonalds after all to get a burger and some French fries.. Finally we went back to the hotel to conclude the day. Tomorrow already the last day in Bangkok, well for now. Because our last days of the holiday we will spend in Bangkok as well seen the fact that our airplane departures from Bangkok. See you tomorrow! ?
