Kanchanaburi - Ayutthaya (day 6)

A stormy night turned out to be a bad omen. Once I got up and packed my suitcase it was time for breakfast. In the meantime a tropical rain shower had started. So we had to walk through the rain to get to the breakfast table... After breakfast is was time to leave. The owner of the guest house brought us with the car of the company to our next destination: Ayutthaya! This was about 2,5 hours driving. On our way we stopped at a gas station so we could get to the toilet but also to buy something to eat / drink. Turned out the driver had bought us some delicious (Thai) treats, very nice of him! Upon arrival we had to wait half an hour before we could check-in, but the owner of the hotel could already give us a map of the area and point out the highlights of the former capital of Thailand (just north of Bangkok, the current capital) and about all the do's and dont's.

After his briefing it was time to check-in. Once checked-in it turned out my dad feels a little sick (he also had diarrhea this morning) and layed down on bed. My mother and I decided to go for a walk in the park in the old city. On our way we stopped at a restaurant where we had lunch (for just 5 euro...). Ayutthaya has about 100 ancient temples in the old city (or ruins actually). In the new city there are about 100.000 temples... A bit to much to visit them all, that's why there is a top 10 of the temples in the old city. We will visit them tomorrow by rental bicycle. During the walk through the park you walk past the ruins, but also the nature. In this giant park there are lakes, streams and puddles where different bird species are scurrying around. Besides that we als saw squirls and Komodo dragons. After walking for 2 hours we went back to the hotel room to check up on my dad, who was already awake when we arrived and it turned our he felt a bit better already. We decided to go for a walk, in search for dinner (in the meantime it already had gotten dark outside). Via a bank (to withdraw some money) we walked to a recommended restaurant to eat, where there's also football beeing broadcasted. After dinner we wanted to go to the night market, but the restaurant owner told us that the market is closed because of the heavy rain (all day long...). That was fed up! Allthough I already walked on that market in the afternoon with my mother, who also bought watermelon for the sick patient... Furthermore we were thinking about our next move. Should we go south, or first to Chiang Mai up north. A third option is book an extra night here, because the weather forecast for tomorrow is about the same as the weather of today... First we have to make it through the day tomorrow!
