Ayutthaya (day 7)

The day started out well with a nice breakfast. After that the rental bicycles (which we ordered earlier) were ready. Because the program for today is a bike ride through the old city (which is also a park by the way). During this bike ride we're doing a temple-tour, This means that we cycle from temple to temple (the top 10 I was talking about yesterday) to visit them.

First we visited Wat Maha That, this one is world famosus for the Buddha head which is almost hidden in a tree. Next we visited Wat Rachanaburanam, Wat Thannikarat, Viharn Phra Mongkhon Bophit, Wat Phra Si Sanphet and Wat Lokaya Sutharam (an old and big relclinging Buddha in the open air). Then the pouring rain started and because of a lack of time we cycles back tot the hotel. On our way back we stopped at the same restaurant as yesterday. Here we had lunch once again, at the same table. After the lunch we continued our way to the hotel to return the bicycles. Then we had an hour left until the boat ride started, so it was time to relax until the tuktuk (which was reserved earlier) arrived and brought us to the dock. Here we got in the longtail boat, in which we continued our temple-tour. Allthough we will visit just 3 temples by boat. These are located in the new city. The old city is surrounded by some sort of a canal and around that you will find the new city. On the outer ring of the canal you will find the (new / modern) temples along the canal. Here we visited Wat Phanan Choeng (close to the Dutch settlement), Wat Phutthai Sawan (this temple contains  a giant sitting Buddha) and finally  Wat Chaiwatthanarm. This last one is similar to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Here you can take beautiful photos during the sunset. Unfortunately because of the time and weather we we'rent that lucky to witness this view! After this it was finishing the lap back to the dock where we started. Here the tuktuk was already waiting for us to take us back to the hotel (which was 5 to 10 minutes driving by the way). On our way back we saw (yet) the flaming red sky from the sunset, which was really beautiful to see! Upon arrival at the hotel we walked to the same restaurant where we had dinner last evening. After dinner we walked back to the hotel, because my dad started to feel sick again (eventhough it was oke during the day). That will be a long day tomorrow, because we will be sitting in a bus for 6 hours to Sukhotai. With other words up north! How this will end you will read it tomorrow, see you then!
