Ayutthaya - Sukhothai (day 8)

22/10/2018

Opmerkingen

After having a nice breakfast once again we were picked up by tuktuk (pre-arranged) and taken to the busstation. I was surprised that 3 people and some suitcases all fits in a tuktuk! Upon arrival at the busstation we hopped in the luxerious, comfortable and modern touringcar. We will ride for 6 hours until Sukhothai, where we will be spending the next two days. We stopped halfway for some lunch, at a foodcorner. Here you could take some food just by showing your busticket.
Upon arrival at the Sukhothai busstation we were picked up by niece of the owner of the hotel in Ayutthaya with her son in a pickup truck. You would suppose that it's big and spacious, but we could just fit in the car (with the suitcases in the back). This ride would take about 20 minutes. This lady is also the owner of the hostel where we are staying. After checking in and getting an explanation about the city map with the highlights we went for a walk. There was not much to do at that time (around half past four in the afternoon). The hostel is situated in the old city by the way, just like in Ayutthaya. Both cities are similar, the only difference is that the old city of Sukothai is quite far away from the modern city. Just like Ayutthaya Sukothai has a beautiful park, which is situated centrally. Besides that there's a historical park, with ruins of temples. The is accessible by buying an entrance ticket and also seen the fact that it almost closes we didn't went inside. We did have seen the famously Buddha footprint, situated in the central park, which is freely accessible. In the meantime it was already dinner time so we walked past the market street, where's also a lot of restaurants to choose from. There we had dinner. After dinner we walked back to the hostel. Tomorrow we're probably (but I'm not sure) going to an elephant sanctuary, about 60 km away from here. More about this (or an evantually change of plans) tomorrow. See you then!
